Thank you for praying for Mr. Ali

I have looked death in the face twice this month.  The first time was when I saw our brother-in-law Mark Powell on May 4th, just two days before he left us to go "home" to Jesus.   The second time was yesterday, when I was able to have a 3-minute video conversation with a dear friend of our family who has been unable to get out of bed for anything in the last 5 weeks.  He appears to be in the last days of his battle with cancer.  Skeletal thin, speaking in a soft weak voice, too weak to feed himself or hold a cell phone for more than a couple of minutes, telling me of hallucinations he has been having, we interacted for about 3 minutes before he was too exhausted to continue.  I was only able to tell him just at the end a reminder of how much we love him, and how we are praying every day that he will receive the great love of Jesus that is being offered to him.

Originally from Sudan, Mr. Ali spent many years as a political refugee in Athens, where we became very close friends.  In fact, he has been one of my closest friends.  As a young man he rejected Islam and became a communist activist, and later spent time in prison for his political beliefs which ultimately disillusioned him.

He is a kind, thoughtful, intelligent, articulate, diplomatic man who is generous with the little he has and a servant to many,   A few months ago, he returned to Sudan and is being cared for now by his son and a sister.

Most of you may remember, because of a few generous donors I was able to visit Mr. Ali in Athens just over a year ago and spend a week sharing with him and praying with him, and sharing some quality conversation time together.  I am SO THANKFUL for that opportunity!

THANK YOU FOR PRAYING THAT IN HIS FINAL DAYS HE WILL COME TO BELIEVE AND RECEIVE THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE THAT JESUS IS OFFERING HIM.  THANK YOU.
