November/December Update from the McCrackens

"Keep Portland Weird" is our official motto. You gotta love this city!

We were thankful to spend Thanksgiving with Scott's parents and his sister Dana's family. It was bittersweet as it was great to be together but also our first Thanksgiving since our brother-in-law Mark Powell passed away.

One day in early November, I (Scott) received this text from a woman we know:

Hi Scott. I am reaching out for prayers...(My husband) is extremely depressed. He is in the garage, crying and saying he is just done...

I immediately went over to their house and spent time listening to, talking to, and praying for this man we have known for several years. He is a wonderful man and a believer who cannot seem to break the cycle of addictions, after trying many things, including different treatment programs.

To be honest, I left there not believing I had been the least bit helpful. He was pretty convinced that taking his own life was what would be best for everyone, and I mostly expected he would do just that soon afterward.

The good news is he is still with us, and he is doing a little bit of "reaching out" for help. We spent some time together last week that was very encouraging. The bad news is he is still deep in his addictions.

Thanks for praying for this brother to finally find the power and the freedom that the Lord so wants to bring to him.

PRAISES AND PRAYER REQUESTS

* We mentioned last time a friend staying with us who has been going through a very difficult time. He was with us for 3 1/2 months before finding other living arrangements (due to his high risk of exposure to COVID-19 because of his job, he did not want to risk bringing it into our home). His circumstances are still very difficult BUT IMPROVING! He has been a great example to me of trusting in God during difficult and confusing times. Thank you for praying for him to continue to grow in Jesus AND that God would also change the circumstances soon.

* Vicki had her heart ablation done last week due to a very stubborn form of Atrial Fibrillation. It will be a couple of months until they know for sure how effective it was, but early indications to the doctor and Vicki are encouraging. Thanks for continuing to pray for her heart health.

INTERESTING FACT ABOUT PORTLAND:

Portland is home to the world's largest naked bike ride (about 10,000). It usually happens every year, but did get cancelled this year due to COVID-19.

However you celebrate the holidays at this time of year, we hope and pray you experience the living God in a way deeper than you ever have before! We appreciate all of you who invest through prayer and/or finances and/or encouragement. We are in this TOGETHER!

TOGETHER WITH YOU, we're bringing people together in Rockwood to ensure that no one is invisible and that everyone has access to food, freedom, and forgiveness.

TOGETHER WITH YOU, we envision Rockwood becoming a community of holistic prosperity where children are less vulnerable to being trafficked, adults do not want to traffic kids, and people are becoming followers of Jesus.

Because of YOU, people are being educated about sex trafficking, a collaborative spirit is being fostered amongst churches in an at-risk community, disciples are being made who will disciple others, and take the Gospel to the nations!

Thank you for allowing God to use your prayers, encouragement, and financial investments to help this happen!Copyright © 2020 Scott and Vicki McCracken, All rights reserved.
