Tamale Prayer Outreach
TOGETHER WITH YOU, we're bringing people together in Rockwood to ensure that no one is invisible and that everyone has access to food, freedom, and forgiveness. TOGETHER WITH YOU, we envision Rockwood becoming a community of holistic prosperity where people are becoming followers of Jesus, and where everyone has the right to earn, learn, and belong.
FINALLY, after a long hiatus (thanks, COVID!) we were able to relaunch our Tamale Prayer Outreach in June. It is an outreach to the community of Rockwood (no matter where people are on their journey of faith). Our "target" is whoever walks by while we are set up there. We ask people passing by if they would like a free tamale and some water. Whether they say yes or no, we then ask if they would like someone to pray with them. Normally, more people say "yes" than "no". This time we were in a new location, and there were not many people who passed by, and not many who accepted our offer for prayer. But there were some.
Sometimes we get to encourage believers (old or new), and sometimes we get to encourage "not-yet-believers". Usually both. Sometimes we get to share the Gospel, sometimes just a laugh or a word of blessing. Sometimes we invite them to take a tamale and a water, and sometimes we also invite them to church or a recovery meeting. Sometimes we listen while they talk, and sometimes they listen while we talk. Sometimes we pray for people and their families and problems, which results in tears, hugs, and further conversation. Sometimes people do not want prayer at all. On most days we do it, there is a mix of all these things.
My experience (here and overseas) is that good food and praying WITH people are two BIG ways of loving people that are meaningful to them (not just to us).
Thanks for praying for the 2022 Rockwood/Athens Team that will be departing Portland on July 20th and returning on August 6th. We will be serving the Helping Hands refugee ministry there.
Thanks for continuing to pray for our team going to serve at The Oasis refugee ministry center in Austria the second half of September!

* Vicki as she is currently in relationship and communication with about 25 women in some kinds of mentoring, counseling, intentional influence/discipleship. She feels inadequate. Pray for God's wisdom and for His power to be manifest through her weakness.
* Scott is still praying/developing a discipleship strategy to fit our church and community. He desperately needs wisdom from above.
Because of YOU, we are able to educate others about sex trafficking, help foster collaboration amongst churches in an at-risk community, disciple others who will disciple others, and take the Gospel to the nations!Thank you for allowing God to use your prayers and financial investments to help this happen!
