TOGETHER WITH YOU, we're bringing people together in Rockwood to ensure that no one is invisible and that everyone has access to food, freedom, and forgiveness. TOGETHER WITH YOU, we envision Rockwood becoming a community of holistic prosperity where people are becoming followers of Jesus, and where everyone has the right to earn, learn, and belong.
Alicia Gonzalez
Pete Armstrong
Jacob Small
Norma Tello
Scott McCracken
This is the FIRST of its kind, as far as I know! God willing, I will be taking a small team of people from different churches in ROCKWOOD to serve in the Athens Helping Hands refugee ministry the last week of July and first week of August THIS SUMMER!
Pictured above are Alicia Gonzalez from the Luz del Pueblo Church, Pete Armstrong from Parklane Christian Reformed Church, Jacob Small from Columbia View Wesleyan Church, Norma Tello from Centro de Milagro Church, and Scott McCracken from As Is Church. All of these beautiful people are in pastoral or other leadership roles in their churches.
Our hope and prayer is that, among other important things, it will be a major investment into the unity of the Church in Rockwood, and will lead to great collaborative efforts locally.
If you would like to make a financial investment in this ministry opportunity that combines discipleship and leadership development with bringing the Gospel to the nations (i.e., people from "closed countries"), you can either:
A. Write a check to One Collective, with an enclosed note that designates "Rockwood Athens Mission Team", account # 50US3598, and send to
One Collective 2155 Point Blvd #200

...OR...
B. Give online at: https://give.onecollective.org/ Fill out the relevant info, and in the "Giving to Support" section write, account # 50US3598 (the digit after the first 5 is a ZERO, not the letter O).
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TRAINING PREPARATION FOR SHORT-TERM MISSION TEAMS?
Good question! We usually share a meal together in our home or at a restaurant at least twice a month. Included in our times together: * Sharing of various assessments (Personality profiles, Love Languages, Spiritual Gifts, Sacred Pathways, etc.) * Sharing "highs and lows" of our week and PRAYING for each other * Reading/Discussing together the book "Foreign to Familiar" (about cultural differences between hot climate and cold climate cultures in the world) * Going through a Bible Study together called "Entertaining Angels" (about refugees in the Bible and God's heart for refugees today) * Fundraising * Recruiting personal prayer teams * Learning/practicing how to share our testimonies with refugees from Islamic cultures * Spiritual Warfare * Learning Words/phrases the national, and in refugee, languages * Going through the Pre-Field Orientation manual * Going through the group study series "BRIDGES: Christians Connecting With Muslims" * Learning how to use Google Translate * ESL conversation tips/pointers for public proclamation, and PRACTICE * Research and Reports on refugee-producing countries * Practice conversations in “English” with broken English speakers * Meet local refugees and hear their stories * Develop prayer guide for our churches * Talk about jet lag and culture shock and reverse culture shock * Discuss "what if...?" scenarios * Shopping for, and packing, supplies for the missionaries/ministries * Watch videos/movies and read books about refugees * Other practical and team-building instructions and activities
PRAYER REQUESTS AND PRAISE
* Scott is also planning to take a small team from our church to serve The Oasis ministry in Austria THIS September. More details about that later. Thanks for praying for team unity, good preparation, and financial support to come in for all of us.
* Scott has been asked by our pastor to spearhead a new discipleship strategy in our church. He (Scott) feels ignorant and inadequate but has agreed, desperately needing prayer support.
* Scott has been leading and developing a team of teachers for our church's Sunday morning Bible Study. After about 5 or 6 years of doing this, Scott "passed on the torch" to the team of beautiful people he loves and trusts to carry on. Thanks for praying for them.
* Thank you for praying about an opportunity later this month for Scott to share about Sex Trafficking in the U.S. with a group of women prisoners (via Zoom) as part of a seminary course they are going through.
* Recently, we sent out an urgent prayer request regarding a couple who were experiencing demonization issues in themselves and in their home. They are doing much better, were recently baptized, and I am meeting with them weekly to help them learn about following Jesus. Thank you for your continued prayers. Look for their story in more detail in a forthcoming update.
* As you may remember, Vicki had a "health scare" while we were leading a mission team in Athens last summer. After the last of many follow-up appointments in recent months, the final test results and appointment concluded with a probable diagnosis of "Transient Global Amnesia". While neither the initial diagnosis of TIA (transient ischemic attack) nor this most recent one can be 100% certain, she seems very healthy now and is so grateful for everyone's prayerful and loving concerns.
Because of YOU, we are able to educate others about sex trafficking, help foster collaboration amongst churches in an at-risk community, disciple others who will disciple others, and take the Gospel to the nations! Thank you for allowing God to use your prayers and financial investments to help this happen!
