Aug/Sept 2020 Update from the McCrackens

TOGETHER WITH YOU, we're bringing people together in Rockwood to ensure that no one is invisible and that everyone has access to food, freedom, and forgiveness. TOGETHER WITH YOU, we're working on PREVENTING trafficking, dovetailing with our Integrated Community Transformation mission.   TOGETHER WITH YOU, we envision Rockwood becoming a community where children are less vulnerable to being trafficked and adults do not want to traffic kids.

Thanks to everyone who has been praying for Portlanders during both the times of unlawful violence during legal and peaceful protests AND praying for us during the slew of fires.  Over 500,000 Oregonians have been displaced in these days.  We were able to take in some fire evacuees (6 people and 6 cats) for several days.  The McCrackens are personally doing fine (the photo above is taken from our front door at noon on Sunday).  It is even smokier today than the day the photo was taken, but the fires are becoming more contained and it is supposed to rain a little bit tonight and tomorrow.  Thanks for your continued prayers, especially for the firefighters, the displaced, and the grieving.

Interesting Facts About Portland (from MovementPortland.com)...

Aug/September's Fact: The average age of a Portland resident is 35

Our son Kyle was married to his beautiful Greek bride Olga on Sunday, Sept. 6th.  Although Greece has not been allowing Americans into the country in recent months, and although Vicki had been diligently contacting the Greek consulate in the U.S. since July (when we learned of their engagement and impending wedding), the Greek government gave us permission on September 1st to attend the wedding!  We left on Sept. 3rd and arrived the evening of the 4th so we had a whole day to spend with Kyle before he got married on the 6th and they left early on the 7th for their honeymoon.

As I type these words, Kyle and Olga are on a plane from Greece to Scotland where they will live for 3 years and study for their doctorates at the university in Aberdeen. As we mentioned in a previous update, our partner The Rockwood Community Development Corporation has become a food distribution hub during the days of COVID-19, helping to feed the hungry in our community.  I (Scott) have been able to help some with that.  But food networking is about so much more than just food (see the link below). Three times more people here get COVID-19 than do people in the rest of Oregon, making Rockwood the State’s largest hotspot for infection. If you are interested to read more about it, here is where you can temporarily find it (after clicking this link, look at the top of the page and click the PDF file on the right side):

PRAISES AND PRAYER REQUESTS

*  We praise God for providing a way for us to celebrate in Greece at our son Kyle's wedding!  We are thankful for the marvelous hospitality provided by Themis and Donna Sirinides. *  Our son William has worked hard, paid his way through college, responsibly saved his money and is about to close on a house.  His good friend will move in and share the costs. *  Our pastor suffered a stroke in July but is almost fully recovered! *  Please pray for Scott as he is active now in many leadership and discipleship responsibilities. * We have a Portland friend who has been living with us for over a month now while he goes through some very difficult struggles.  Please keep him in prayer and also us that we would know how to best serve and encourage him.

We are so very THANKFUL for YOU

Because of YOU, we are able to educate others about sex trafficking, help foster a collaborative spirit amongst churches in an at-risk community, disciple others who will disciple others, and take the Gospel to the nations!

Thank you for allowing God to use your prayers and financial investments to help this happen!
